John La Bouchardiere

John La Bouchardière was born in Hampshire, England, and was a chorister at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he studied music, drama and opera to post-graduate level at Birmingham University. He has since worked for companies including the BBC, Channel 4, English National Opera, La Fenice, New Israeli Opera, Opera Graz, Opéra National du Rhin, Opera North, Scottish Opera, Teatro Liceu (Barcelona), Teatro Sao Carlos (Lisbon) and Vlaamse Opera.
As a director in his own right, John's productions include Aci, Galatea e Polifemo, Dido & Æneas, Ephitaphium Carpentarij & Intermède pour "Un mariage forcé", La dafne, Orfeo, Orphée et Eurydice and San Giovanni Battista (Barber Institute of Fine Arts); Susannah (Midlands Arts Centre), Carmen (Sutton Theatre), The Beggars' Opera (St. Alban's Chamber Opera); Die Fledermaus (Eastern Opera); The Medium and Ten Belles (Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama); Rigoletto (Opera Holland Park); Eugene Onegin, Semele and Tamerlano (Scottish Opera); Don Giovanni (Varna, Bulgaria).
John's wildly-acclaimed music-theatre project, The Full Monteverdi has been toured worldwide by I Fagiolini, with nearly 100 performances since 2004, winning a Royal Philharmonic Society Award in 2006 and finishing with a run at the Lincoln Center Festival, New York in 2007. His own reworking of his idea as an award-winning film has been released on DVD and broadcast internationally. John is Creative Director of Polyphonic Films.
