Following her distinguished singing career, which took her to three continents and many of the world's leading opera houses, Ms. Sundine began directing opera in 1998. As director and dramatic coach, Ms. Sundine has worked at numerous American universities and opera companies with many talented young artists and experienced professionals. Her experience as a singer helps her create dynamic productions that are emotionally engaging.
She is known for creating detailed character development and providing lively, imaginative productions that offer dramatic insight into a work. She has directed in many regional theaters, including Atlanta Opera, Indiana University Opera Theater, Madison Opera, Opera Carolina, Sarasota Opera, Utah Opera and Ft. Worth Opera.
In January of 2008 she returned to Utah Opera to direct Tosca, followed by Sarasota Opera for Rigoletto. In May 2008, she directed a new production of Verdi's Ernani with Opera Boston. Her 2007 productions included Madama Butterfly for Sarasota Opera, Rigoletto for Opera Santa Barbara, and Pearl Fishers for Madison Opera.
Upcoming engagements includes directing Tosca and a 4-act, French version of Don Carlos for Sarasota Opera in February and March 2009 and Little Women with the University of Utah, Salt Lake City in April 2009.
