In 2012-13 Abigail Nims debuts with the Baltimore Symphony as alto soloist in Messiah, with Adrian Symphony in Berlioz’ Les Nuits d’ete, and Virginia Opera as Prince Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus. Abigail Nims’ season 2011-12 engagements included her debut with Atlanta Opera as Veruca Salt in The Golden Ticket; singing as soloist in Messiah with the Masterwork Chorus under Andrew Megill; as Octavian in selections from Der Rosenkavalier in a return to Quad City Symphony Orchestra, and returning to the roster of New York City Opera.
Recent highlights included her debut with Wexford Festival Opera as Veruca Salt, a role which she created at the opera’s workshop performances in New York City; appearing as Despina in Così fan tutte with Palm Beach Opera; with the San Francisco Symphony as soloist in Bach’s Mass in B Minor; a return to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra to sing Haydn’s Harmoniemesse; singing Mozart’s Requiem with Quad City Symphony Orchestra; Handel’s Messiah with the Providence Singers; and returning to the New York Philharmonic for its presentation of Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen.
Other highlights include Lazuli in L’étoile in her New York City Opera debut; Stravinsky’s Pulcinella and Crumb’s Night of the Four Moons with Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra; Messiah with New Choral Society; Zerlina in Don Giovanni with Opera New Jersey; Despina in Così fan tutte with Opera Grand Rapids; Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and Meg in Little Women, both with Opera Delaware; Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Princeton Festival; Zefka in Janáček’s The Diary of One Who Disappeared with Gotham Chamber Opera; singing as soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 at Teatro Municipal de Santiago (Chile); and Mozart’s Vespare solennes de confessore and Michael Haydn’s Requiem with Masterwork Chorus.
Ms. Nims is particularly praised for her expressive interpretations and tonal beauty in the concert repertoire. Highlights of recent performances include Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with Teatro Municipal (Chile); appearances as guest soloist in George Benjamin’s Upon Silence and Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater with the New England String Ensemble; Mozart’s Requiem with the Quad City Symphony; Messiah with the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra (Ohio); Ligeti’s Síppal, dobbal, nádihegedüvel with the Yale Percussion Ensemble; Liebeslieder Walzer at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival; Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with Yale Philharmonia; and J.C.F. Bach’s solo cantata, Ach, dass ich Wassers gnug hätte with Westminster Kantorei. An engaging recitalist, deeply dedicated to this repertoire, Ms. Nims has recently presented recitals at Trinity Church, Wall Street, New York City; Wexford Festival Opera; and as guest alumna at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Her recitals have included repertoire by Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Berlioz, Schubert, Schumann, Grieg, Brahms, Mahler, Wolf, Debussy, Berg, Bridge, Ives, Ginastera, Argento, and Harbison. Ms. Nims’ discography includes her performances of Martin Bresnick’s song cycle “Falling,” featured on the composer’s compilation album Every Thing Must Go (Albany Records, 2010), and the role of Veruca Salt in Peter Ash’s The Golden Ticket (also Albany Records), fall 2012.
