Jose Carreras on June 5, 1995, during his concert at the Marcus Center
Last week, international opera star Jose Carreras announced his retirement from opera. Did you know he appeared with the Florentine Opera in a special concert in 1995?
In fact, all three of the famed tenors have graced the Florentine stage. In honor of our upcoming 75th Anniversary Concert & Celebration, here’s a blast from the past, Tenor-style.

Sheer joy at seeing a picture of Maestro John Anello this morning. He is, and forever will be, one of the two most admired men I have ever known. The other is my late father, Roy.
Thank you so much for the kind comments regarding my Grandfather. He certainly had a passion for the art! My grandfather shared with me the story behind Domingo’s appearance with the Florentines many a time. It gave him a great deal of pride that he was able to work with him at such a young age.
FYI: The tall gentleman third from the right in the photo is Robert Simpson. He was a brilliant director/choreographer who worked with my grandfather and father quite often in Milwaukee.
I did not recognize Bob Simpson in the picture. Shame on me. He was a wonderful man, along with the late Claire Richardson, founder of the Skylight Theatre.
