Last week, we shared some pictures of the Florentine Opera’s encounters will all three of the famed Tenors. We would never want to be seen as neglectful, so here is a look back at just some of the lovely – and internationally renowned - ladies who have graced our stage over the years:
In 2008, Swedish soprano Erika Sunnegårdh made her role debut with the Florentine in the title role of Salome, although she first appeared in Milwaukee with the Florentine Opera as Leonore in our 2005 production of Fidelio.

In 2005, soprano Angela Brown delighted Milwaukee audiences in the title role of Aida. The New York Times agreed, writing of her: “At last – An Aida!”

In 2004, Polish soprano Ewa Podles starred in Il Trovatore.

And many of our patrons fondly remember our 1978 production of Donizetti’s The Daughter of the Regiment, starring none other than Beverly Sills as Marie. (Ms. Sills also starred in Lucia di Lammermoor in 1974).

Is Sherrill Milnes a baritone?
Hi, Cathie- Yes, indeed, he is! Excellent catch. We’ve updated the list above, although we should certainly give Mr. Milnes his due, as he did appear with the Florentine many times: in the 1970-71 season’s Barber of Seville (Figaro), 1973-74′s Il Trovatore (Count di Luna), 1994-95′s Tosca (Scarpia), 1996-97′s La Traviata (Giorgio Germont).
