Choreographer

Debra Loewen founded Wild Space in 1986. Since then, the company has performed to critical acclaim throughout Wisconsin and in Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, Japan, and South Korea. Featured in Dance Magazine, Debra’s site-specific work has brought recognition to Milwaukee landmarks, such as Historic Turner Ballroom, Menomonee Valley and Villa Terrace. In 2015, she created site-specific work at the Delaware Art Museum, and toured with other nationally recognized women choreographers for Dancing on the Ceiling (2017, 2018). Debra’s work has been honored by Milwaukee County, the Milwaukee Arts Board, Milwaukee County Historical Society, Wisconsin Arts Board, Wisconsin Dance Council and the NEA. A senior lecturer at the UWM Peck School of the Arts Dance Department, she leads the company’s residency at Lincoln Center Middle School of the Arts.
