Semele
Pride goeth before a fall, and one would be hard-pressed to find a character as vain as Semele. "MYSELF I shall adore," she shamelessly sings. Featuring some of the most notable stars of classical mythology, Handel's rousing opera retells the story of the woman who aspired to become immortal, but whose blind ambition led to a thunderously fatal conclusion. Don't miss the Florentine's first-ever performance of a Baroque opera in a stunning re-creation of John La Bouchardiere's original Scottish Opera production.
Conducted by renowned Baroque expert Jane Glover, Music Director of Chicago's Music of the Baroque.
Sung in English with English translations projected above the stage.
