Development Manager

Milwaukee’s Grammy Award-winning Florentine Opera Company seeks a dynamic and goal-oriented individual to help increase contributed income from individual gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation and government grants, and active participation in the United Performing Arts Fund. Other core duties include the management of an annual fundraising gala and a variety of cultivation and stewardship events that connect the community as investors in great opera, on stage and in the community.

The Development Manager will successfully:

  • Implement all aspects of the Company’s Annual Campaign, working to meet contributed revenue goals from individuals, corporate sponsorships, foundation and government grants, and active participation in the United Performing Arts Fund campaign.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with donors/prospects through personalized acknowledgment letters, handwritten notes, thank you phone calls and in-person visits.
  • Maintain the Company’s Grants & Reports calendar and research and identify new sources of funding.
  • Be a part of the team that develops and writes creative and winning grant proposals.
  • Oversee the staff that processes contributions, acknowledgment letters, customer profile updates and mailing lists. Attend Archtics User meetings and training sessions to promote database best practices.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate donor listings and sponsorship recognition.
  • Manage the company’s Annual Gala and other donor cultivation/stewardship events, including guest lists and vendor and committee relations.
  • Maintain effective planning and tracking documents for all campaigns and projects.
  • Support other Development Department projects as assigned.
  • Administer Development Committee meetings; attend meetings, prepare handouts and supporting materials, and take and circulate minutes in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications staff to recognize donors and develop and distribute communications pieces related to fundraising.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills along with a knack for making a compelling case for support. A bachelor’s degree is required along with a demonstrated background in fundraising. Occasional availability on nights and weekends especially around opera productions.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in non-profit fundraising, event planning, public relations and/or other related field(s).
  • Strong organizational and communications skills and attention to accuracy, details, and deadlines.
  • Time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to take initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Computer literate. Especially in fundraising databases/software with fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of organizational stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, board members and community leaders.
  • Adherence to industry code of ethics and donor confidentiality.
  • An interest and passion for serving the non-profit arts and creative sector.

Marketing/Development Intern (2)

(Currently Seeking Intern for Summer 2015)

Internship Description

This internship is a wonderful opportunity for college students to learn about the process and procedures of marketing in the non-profit arts sector. The Marketing Intern reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and assists the Florentine Opera administrative staff in a variety of areas.

Requirements

  • Assist with preparation for the summer and 2015-2016 season events
  • Assist with maintaining communications with press and media
  • Assist with communications project fulfillment
  • Assist in planning and executing special events, box office tasks and fulfillment
  • Attend regular departmental meetings
  • Candidates should be pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree in Communications, Journalism, Non-Profit Management or Liberal Arts
  • Candidates should be highly motivated and have the ability to work independently
