@ The Center: Sister Carrie: A Workshop Performance
Wayne and Kristine Leuders Florentine Opera Center
926 E Burleigh St, Milwaukee, WI 53212
The Florentine presents a new opera by Robert Aldridge and Hershel Garfein. The composer and librettist of two-time Grammy Award-winning Elmer Gantry have adapted another classic American novel, Theodore Dreiser’s 1900 Sister Carrie. These talented artists bring the story of Caroline Meeber, a young woman from rural Wisconsin whose world changes fundamentally as she faces dilemmas of physical and spiritual survival when she moves to Chicago, to a new audience @ The Center. This workshop is made possible through the generous support of the Getty Foundation's Building Opera Audiences grant program and Opera America's The Opera Fund for Repertoire Development.

Join the Florentine Opera Company & La Lune Collection for a remarkable event evoking the tastes and sounds of the Italian countryside! Begin the evening with cocktails accompanied by traditional Italian Folk music. Then, relax alfresco in the open air of the courtyard and enjoy a delicious rustic Italian meal created for you by Chef Scott Shully served in true Italian family style. From primi to dolci, Italy is but a few steps away. Following dinner, General Director Bill Florescu and Florentine Opera singers will lead us through the experience of Italy with favorite tunes eliciting the hills of Tuscany, the canals of Venice, the songs of Naples, the art of Florence and the history of Rome-with special accompaniment by virtuoso bayan accordionist, Stas Venglevski.
