Carol Garcia

Mezzo-Soprano

Winner of the 2015 Young Artist Prize from Opers Actual and born in Barcelona. mezzo-soprano Carol Garcia studies with Francesca Roig. A semi-finalist at the 2008 Montserrat Caballé Singing Competition, she was a finalist at the 2009 Luis Mariano Singing Competition, being awarded the Second Prize for Female Singers; a finalist at the 2009 Francesco Viñas Competition 09, being awarded with a scholarship and with the special prize “Grupo de liceístas del 4o y 5o piso” as the most promising spanish singer’ and finalist of 2010 Paris Opera Competition.

She made her debut as Rosina Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Real, Madrid, before singing Angelina La cenerentola at the Petit Liceu, a role she has also sung at the Tenerife Opera Festival. In 2009, she joined the Atelier Lyrique at the Opéra national de Paris, where she covered Cherubino Le nozze di Figaro and Rosina Il barbiere di Siviglia, and sang Javotte Manon and AdonellaFrancesca da Rimini at the Bastille. With the Atelier Lyrique, she appeared as Concepción L’heure espagnole and Jenny Hildebrand Street Scene.

Engagements elsewhere have included Javotte Manon at the Philharmonie de Luxembourg, La Musica / La Messaggera / La Speranza L’Orfeo with Les Talens Lyriques at the Opéra national de Lorraine and at the Salle Pleyel, Paris, Donna Elvira Don Giovanni with Opéra Eclaté, Rosina Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Opéra national de Bordeaux and the Opéra de Massy, Angelina La cenerentola at the Palau de Congressos de Santa Eulàlia de Ibiza, Zulma L’Italiana in Algeri at the Opéra de Marseille and Selinda Il Farnace at the Opéra national du Rhin, a production also presented at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, and Versailles.

Conductors with whom she has worked included Christoph Alfstaedt, Avner Biron, Bruno Campanella, Giuliano Carella, Jeff Cohen, Diego Faolis, Antony Hermus, Paolo Olmi, Daniel Oren, George Petrou, Evelino Pidò, Marlano Rivas, Christophe Rousset and Jean-Luc Tingaud.

Highlights of 2014 / 2015 included Doña Damiana La Clementinaat the Teatro de la Zaruela, Madrid, the title role in Carmen at the Palau de Congressos de Santa Eulàlia de Ibiza, Mme DangevilleAdriana Lecouvreur at the Opéra national de Paris, Rosina Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Opéra national de Montréal, CanteloubeSongs of the Auvergne on tour with the Israel Camerata and VivaldiStabat Mater on tour with the Young Musicians European Orchestra.

Current engagements include Doña Damiana La Clementina with Andrea Marcon at the Granada Music Festival, Charlotte Wertherat the Teatro Verdi, Trieste, Rosina Il barbiere di Siviglia for the Florentine Opera Company, Angelina La cenerentola at the Opéra de Tours and Stravinsky Mavra at the Fundación Juan March.

During 2014, Carol Garcia was a Finalist in the 33rd International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Düsseldorf and in the 22nd Edition of Plácido Domingo’s Operalia in Los Angeles.

You can see Carol Garcia onstage for the 1st time in the U.S. on May 5 & 7 in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville with the Florentine Opera!
