Noel Bouley

Bass-Baritone

Acclaimed for his “formidable and richly expressive bass-baritone,” Noel Bouley is quickly becoming known for his “commanding stage presence and ability to create a three-dimensional character with sympathy and real humanity.”

Bouley began the 2012-2013 season singing Sweeney Todd at the Aspen Music Festival where he “inhabited the murderous barber with frightening precision and ease.” He then joined Kentucky Opera as an Ensemble Artist for a second season as the Sacristan in Tosca after performing Zuniga in Carmen and Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro the previous season. In November, he made his debut with the Lexington Philharmonic singing Vaughan-Williams’ Five Mystical Songs “providing tones of gravitas and rapture to this sublime music.” This past January Bouley took first place in Shreveport Opera’s Singer of the Year Competition.

The season continues as Bouley returns to Kentucky Opera to sing Masetto in their new ‘Film Noir’ production of Don Giovanni. This summer Bouley will join Glimmerglass Opera as a young artist to cover the title role in Wagner’s Der Fliegender Holländer and perform the role of Sir Lionel in Camelot. He will then make his debut with Amarillo Opera this October singing Raimondo in their new production of Lucia di Lammermoor.

Among the other characters in Bouley’s opera repertoire are the title roles inLe Nozze di Figaro and Falstaff, as well as George in Of Mice and Men, Collatinus in The Rape of Lucretia, Escamillo in La Tragédie de Carmen, and Guglielmo in Così Fan Tutte. On the concert stage Bouley has performed as featured soloist in many works including Penderecki’s Credo, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, and Bach’s Mass in B minor. He made his debut at Avery-Fischer Hall in New York singing the bass solos in Haydn’s Missa in Tempore Belli and Mozart’s Requiem. In 2011 he made his debuts with both the Tucson Symphony Orchestra for Handel’s Messiah and the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra singing Finzi’s Et in Terra Pax. Bouley graduated with an Artist Diploma and Master of Music degree from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and he received a Bachelor of Music degree in both vocal performance and music education from Louisiana State University.
