This season, Mr. Rideout creates the role of Hades in the world premiere of Julian Wachner’s opera REV. 23, with performances in Boston. Last season, Mr. Rideout was Mime in Das Rheingold (North Carolina Opera), the title role in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex (Washington Chorus, Kennedy Center), and he returned to Opera America’s New Works Forum (Town Hall, New York). He was also soloist in the world premiere of Joseph Vella’s The Hyland Mass (St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York), Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestra), Philip Glass’ Symphony No. 5 (Trinity Wall Street, New York), Carmina Burana (Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra), Mozart’s Requiem (Symphony Silicon Valley), and Berlioz’ Roméo et Juliette (Richmond Symphony Orchestra).
Mr. Rideout’s engagements in the 2015-16 season included singing the title role in Stewart Copleland’s The Invention of Morel, the main antagonist in Lash’s Beowulf (Opera America’s New Opera Showcase), Tamino in Die Zauberflöte (Opera Coeur d’Alene), Alfred in Die Fledermaus (New Orleans Opera), Missa solemnis (Highland Park Presbyterian Church,, Dallas) and Les noces (Trinity Wall Street).
His recent concert engagements included Britten’s War Requiem (Washington Chorus), Mendelssohn’s St. Paul (New York Choral Society), and Berlioz’ La damnation de Faust (Richmond Symphony Orchestra). His performances with conductor Lorin Maazel included Britten’s War Requiem (New York Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic), as well as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with Symphonica Toscanini in Rome and Brussels.
Mr. Rideout has sung the role of Alfred (San Francisco Opera), Tamino and Roderick in Glass’ The Fall of the House of Usher (Nashville Opera), Nadir in Les pêcheurs de perles (Hawaii Opera Theatre), and Edgar in Der Vampyr (American Symphony Orchestra). With Central City Opera he has performed as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Stage Manager in Rorem’s Our Town, and Peter Quint in The Turn of the Screw (Boston Lyric Opera as well).
Vale Rideout can be heard on his debut solo recording Britten & Finzi Song Cycles, and as Edgar in the recently released, Grammy awarded recording of Floyd’s Wuthering Heights with Florentine Opera. He is also featured in the Grammy awarded recordings of Aldridge’s Elmer Gantry as Frank Shallard, and Davis’ Rio de Sangre as Igneo with Florentine Opera, the Grammy nominated recording of Stucky’s August 4th, 1964 with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra under Jaap Van Zweden, and John Musto’s The Inspector as Tancredi with Wolf Trap Opera.
