Florentine Opera Presents "Golden Days: A Concert"

Studio Artists featured in concert of favorite music from American operettas

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin—November 1, 2010—The Florentine Opera Company presents 2010-2011 Studio Artists Erica Schuller (soprano), Julia Hardin (mezzo soprano), Matthew Richardson (tenor) and Scott Johnson (baritone) in The Golden Days, a special one-day-only concert on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 2:30 pm in Vogel Hall of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. The Golden Days will feature favorite American operetta songs and ensembles by composers including Sigmund Romberg, Rudolf Friml, Jerome Kern and Victor Herbert from such pieces as The Desert Song, The Student Prince, Naughty Marietta, Show Boat and Babes in Toyland. This nostalgic afternoon explores the delightful world of the operetta, an art form characterized by elegant songs, witty ensembles and rousing choruses that serve as the roots of modern American musical theater.

“The Golden Days concert is an opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful theater music America has produced –  we don’t get to hear many of these songs often enough,” stated Florentine Opera General Director William Florescu. “I can think of no better way to introduce or reintroduce audiences to this treasure trove of song than to hear it sung by the talented young voices of our Studio Artists. While I firmly believe that the Florentine’s continued focus on new works is an important part of keeping the opera art form vibrant, I equally value the chance to re-examine classic works and pieces, and to allow audiences to engage with them in meaningful and rewarding ways.”
