Florentine Opera Company, Latino Arts present a customized program on Sept 30

 

MILWAUKEE, Wisc.—September 15, 2010—The Florentine Opera in partnership with Latino Arts, Inc. presents a special program for local students introducing them to opera and classical singing. Internationally acclaimed baritone Guido LeBrón, who will create the lead role of Delacruz in the Florentine’s upcoming world premiere of Río de Sangre, will spend the morning with students in eight through twelfth grade presenting “Get Opera,” a specially-customized program designed to engage students in the arts.

In addition to discussing the Florentine’s world premiere opera, which is the first opera to be sung in Spanish in the company’s 77-year history and is one of only a few operas written in the language, Mr. LeBrón will perform live selections from opera, musical theater, and Latin folk songs for students and participate in a question-and-answer session. The Florentine Opera Studio Artists, young artists-in-residence beginning their opera careers with the Florentine, will also perform and speak to students. William Florescu, the Florentine Opera’s General Director, will also attend.

Students that participate in the program on September 30 will be eligible to receive tickets to the world premiere of Río de Sangre in October, giving them the opportunity to finish the “Get Opera” program by experiencing a live opera performance.
