Puccini's Turandot Opens 2011-2012 Season On A High Note
November 4 & 6, 2011 | Uihlein Hall, Marcus Center for the Performing Arts
MILWAUKEE, Wis.—October 4, 2011— The Florentine Opera opens its 2011-2012 season with one of opera’s most beloved classics: Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot, performed November 4 and 6, 2011, at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Milwaukee. Filled with romance and a touch of tragedy, Turandot is a battle of wits that turns to true love as a valiant hero risks his life to win the heart of an icy princess.
An acclaimed cast includes returning audience favorite Renzo Zulian, who will appear as Calaf and perform the show-stopping tenor aria, "Nessun Dorma.” Soprano Lise Lindstrom makes her Florentine Opera debut amidst global critical acclaim for her portrayal of Princess Turandot in venues such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and Italy's La Scala. Soprano Rena Harms makes her Florentine debut as Liu, and bass Peter Volpe (last seen on the Florentine stage in the title role of 2006’s Don Giovanni) will perform the role of Timur.
In another exciting Florentine debut, Eric Einhorn (a member of the directing staff of the Metropolitan Opera since 2005) will stage direct the production, joined by conductor Joseph Rescigno and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in bringing one of opera’s greatest works back to the Florentine stage for the first time since 2000.
