Impersonation Inspired by Passion

Beethoven’s only opera, set in Berlin behind the Iron Curtain.
Leonore disguises herself as a man named Fidelio to save her husband, Florestan, who has been unjustly imprisoned by the corrupt Don Pizarro. In the end, Fidelio/Leonore confronts Pizarro and foils the execution, and a new Minister of State proclaims freedom for all.
